Big Bend Wildlife
6 galleries
According to published park information: "Big Bend National Park's varied habitats support an amazing variety of wildlife, including 11 species of amphibians, 56 species of reptiles, 40 species of fish, 75 species of mammals, more than 450 species of birds, and about 3,600 species of insects."
That gives us an unlimited potential for wildlife and bird photography. I've only scratched the surface.

5 imagesBlack Bear forage through the Chisos Basin and foothills, consuming a wide variety of meals. A black bear eats mostly grasses, leaves and berries but will also consume insets, meat and even carrion when available.

9 imagesMule Deer inhabit the foothills, while the smaller Carmen White Tail Deer live in the Chisos Basin and higher elevations in Big Bend National Park.

21 imagesJavelina are common rummaging through the Cottonwood and Rio Grande Village Campgrounds, digging for roots and tubers. They'll also browse prickly pear tunas and pads as well as nuts and berries. Javelina are fun to photograph as this gallery shows. Just don't get too close.

46 imagesBig Bend is a birder's paradise with over 450 species recorded within the park. The riparian areas are most popular, but other species are found in the higher elevations. I'm an opportunistic bird photographer - just scratching the surface of species found in Big Bend.
