Many popular hiking trails circle around and through Davis Mountains State Park, providing easy to challenging hikes with great vistas as a reward. One can see to McDonald Observatory in northwest and Fort Davis to the east. Picnic shelters built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's are still in use along the Skyline Ridge.

Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, Indian Lodge is a popular destination in the Davis Mountains State Park near Fort Davis. The old section is built with thick walled adobe and contains hand built furniture from the CCC.

Cottonwoods leaf out bright green along Limpia Creek in the Davis Mountains State Park, indicating water is at least seasonally available.

Spring cactus blooms in the Davis Mountains State Park include Claret Cup, Small-Flowered Hedgehogs and Prickly Pear.
