Plains Horsemint has many common names, similar to its cousin the Spotted Beebalm. Among them are Lemon Beebalm, Purple Horsemint, Lemon Mint and Lemon Horsemint. By whatever name you choose, it is a dramatic beauty along roadsides and in fields with its lavender, pink or
purple flower heads towering above the early grasses.
The multi-layered flowers produce seeds at each level. They attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds beginning in May. It is native to Texas and much of Plains Horsemint the south central United States.
